WHAT STYLES DO YOU DO?
Zen Do Kai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE FROM THESE STYLES/MARTIAL ARTS?
Currently I am trying to fit in as much learning in my martial arts journey as I can while balancing a busy career and university studies. By training in these styles as well as dabbling across other styles and attending seminars and events I hope to become a complete martial artist. My goal is to forever be a student of martial arts and never stop learning.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF?
I would describe myself as someone passionate about learning new things. I am always keen to try new experiences and further develop myself. I also really enjoy assisting others in their martial arts journey whether as a training partner, coach, mentor or friend. I am a big believer in community being key to supporting people in achieving their goals.
ROLE MODEL/WHO ARE MY INSPIRATION?
My original instructor Soke Jim Friis was my first real martial arts role model I looked up to. I am now lucky enough to include the whole CMA instructor team who all have something to offer as people who inspire me. Another fantastic role model has also been Soke Brad Ross who has always instilled the importance of life outside of martial arts as well.
ANY ADVICE TO NEW STUDENTS OR ANYONE INTERESTED IN JOINING?
My biggest piece of advice for someone looking to begin their martial arts journey is to keep an open mind and be prepared to question yourself. Success does not come overnight but through hard work and commitment. This may sound daunting to beginners but it is important to remember that despite what is commonly thought, martial arts really is a team sport. With a vibrant, enthusiastic and professional group of instructors coaching you and a warm and welcoming group of students training alongside you it is possible to achieve what you could never imagine.
